You may have missed Thanksgiving, but these tips from Good Housekeeping are perfect just in time for the rest of the Holiday Season parties.
6 Tricks for Stopping Party Stains Before They Happen
Hosting holiday get-togethers is one of the best parts of the season. But with big groups, big dinners, and big fun often comes big messes. Here’s how to avoid annoying stains before they wreak havoc on your house.
1. Lay down doormats.
Place them both inside and outside each door, to minimize dirt tracked in from a big group of guests.
2. Protect your furniture.
Put pads on tables or use trivets to be sure hot or wet dishes don’t leave hard-to-remove rings on wood and other furniture finishes.
3. Try stain-repellant.
Treat chair cushions and upholstered furniture with a spray like Scotchgard to help spills bead up so they’re easier blot away.
4. Use plates.
Don’t think you can get away with serving appetizers with just napkins. Paper plates will help minimize spills.
5. Mind candles.
If your dripless candles aren’t so dripless after all, blow out any that look like they’re about to make a mess. Place pillars on large, heat resistant plates to catch melted wax.
6. Don’t forget coasters.
Spread them around tables (instead of leaving them in a neat stack) so guests will use them automatically.
